July 9

July 8: Not a good day to wear black - 108 degrees this afternoon. Steep climb through beautiful tree lined route in the Okanagan National Forest. Climb topped out at 4020feet. Achieved 41.5mph during one stretch downhill. The fun ended about noon as the temp climbed into the high nineties. Tomorrow should be a shorter day and less elevation gain. Today was 104 miles, 6275 climbing feet. Current location is Coulee Dam, Washington headed for Spokane tomorrow. Limited WiFi currently.

  1. Good grief! I can't imagine how hot it is for you and the rest of the participants. But a heady 41.5mph is kinda exciting--flying down that stretch, hopefully had you feeling somewhat cool for that brief time. Cheering you on through the heat and the uphill spots!

  2. That's blazing. Hopefully, it's a little cooler for you today. Make sure you don't get stuck in your motel room like Tom T. Hall on "Spokane Motel Blues."

I don't know what I'm doing here, I could be someplace else
Like in Atlanta drinkin' wine, wine, wine
I don't know what I'm doing here, I should be someplace else
Like in Kentucky drinkin' 'shine, 'shine, 'shine

The dogs are running down in Memphis
And them nags are running in LA
I'm stuck in Spokane in a motel room
And there ain't no way to get away

Willie Nelson's picking out in Austin
And Waylon's hanging out in Mexico
I'm stuck in Spokane in a motel room
And Kris is making movin' picture shows

    1. Ben,
Thanks. You know the fitting music for every occasion. Now, we travelled through Concrete, WA on day two. We also drove through there, with the big silos with the letters CONCRETE. What movie was partially set in Concrete, WA? About 15-18 years ago.
